Alencia + Rick Southern-Chic Estate Wedding

The Washington’s were married on March 3, 2017 at The Estate at Piedmont in Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia.

Like all things in life, love rarely provides straight path from point A to point B. It is full of twists and turns, lessons to learn, and opportunities to grow before you end up where you were always supposed to be. Alencia and Rick’s love followed that twisty path, but it’s the reason their love story is one of my favorites.

The two grew up together and have known each other most of their lives. They attended the same church and the same elementary school… Rick was actually Alencia’s first crush! But, like all kids do, they grew up and went their separate ways. Years later, they reconnected and went on their first dinner date. Both were full of jitters as they sat across the table from one another. Once they realized they each still said the prayer they learned at their childhood church, so many years ago, they erupted into laughter and all of their jitters were gone. Alencia went home that night knowing that Rick was the one.
Alencia and Rick pledged vows to their son Joe. I think everyone in attendance would agree that it was one of the sweetest and most memorable moments of the day. So much of their relationship has been dedicated to ensuring his happiness and security, that including him in the ceremony was important to them both.

Alencia’s advice to a bride planning her day: “Let people help you! Choose your vendors carefully. I was blessed to have vendors that felt like family. You know yourselves, your friends and family. You know the type of energy you want in your space. Choose vendors that will add to your natural energy.

Don’t stress the small stuff. Get a fantastic planner and let them do their job. Things have a way of working themselves out.

And most importantly, when you wake up the morning of your special day, spend as much time alone as you can. Meditate, take a long shower/bath, breathe deeply. Do whatever you need to do to center yourself. Anything that isn’t done by now isn’t important. You’ve been planning this day for months or maybe your entire life. Remain calm and enjoy it. You don’t want your memories to be full of anxiety and drama. When you get to the venue, give your phone to your calmest bridesmaid and enjoy YOUR DAY!

Stylish Mix Fall Wedding in Georgia

The lush greenery flowing from the quaint garden and polished, industrial chic indoor space of Venue 92 created the perfect combination for the Hoskins’ September wedding. Farren and Derrick knew they wanted a venue that captured the essence of what makes them uniquely them. The couple lives in Atlanta, but both are originally from Mississippi. While Farren had always dreamed of an outdoor wedding with nature’s beautiful touches, she admired the glam, modernity and edge of a sleek reception. And of course, Derrick agreed (What man wouldn’t be smart enough to? lol).

The couple exchanged “I Do’s” with the perfect outdoor backdrop surrounded by full floral arrangements of white hydrangeas and roses provided by Stylish Stems to top off the scene. Farren’s bridesmaids added the perfect pop of color with flowing, elegant but fun mint gowns slightly varying in style between each girl, while Derrick’s groomsmen sported cool, gray tuxedos to compliment the vibrancy of their counterparts.

About 100 guests enjoyed an easy cocktail hour underneath a covered side terrace complete with highboys dripped in soft champagne linens and centered with modest florals. Guests sipped wine and signature cocktails and tasted light hors d’oeuvres as talented Birmingham-based photographer Sam Jasper snapped the perfect shots of the newlywed’s big day.

Farren and Derrick along with their friends and family danced the night away between edgy brick columns, polished cement floors and warm, amber lighting. And for Farren, the day would not be complete without some added bling! Following the mixed-metallic theme, round tables were set with alternating silver sequins and silver pinch-wheel linens, silver chiavari chairs and plenty of candlelight. Let’s not forget the dreamy white floral centerpieces nestled in gold vases. And that southern menu so charmingly framed in gold and silver… we did mention the couple is from Mississippi, right?
Chef Dwayne Hairston of Custom Creations and his staff served the ultimate Southern feast complete with lemon & herb grilled chicken breast, four cheese baked macaroni, angus roast beef, southern-style collard greens, and sweet potato soufflé.

The cakes? A classic, three-tiered French vanilla and Italian cream wedding cake wrapped in bling ribbon and an adorable cinnamon-flavored hunting themed groom’s cake topped with deer antlers… the southern comfort meets urban flare mix shines through again!

Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins continued the night embracing under the place’s memorizing chandeliers and draped beams and received a joyous send-off as guests waved night sparklers above the smiling couple’s hand-in-hand walkout.

Winter Wedding Ideas

Winter is truly a wonderland when it comes to inexpensive and creative ideas for your wedding. There are so many fun wintery elements that you can incorporate into your décor to really make your wedding unique. Winter has many possible themes, whether your wedding is centered around the excitement of the Holidays or the quiet peacefulness of nature as it goes dormant. Below are some great winter wedding ideas that will make your big day an event to remember.

Table Settings and Center Pieces
Since few plants flower in the winter, why not skip the flowers on your tables and utilize what mother nature gives you for free. Gather pine cones, twigs, and berries to use as a part of your center piece. They are easy to find and can be painted white, silver, gold, or red to really make them stand out. You can also buy metallic floral spraypaint from a craft store and use it to “frost” your natural elements to make them look elegant and wintery. This DIY centerpiece will cost you very little money, but the results will be priceless.

Cocktails and Meals
Plan to serve some special wintery cocktails to get everyone feeling warm and toasty. Hot Toddys, cinnamon martinis, or irish coffee are great drinks to warm the soul. Coordinate with the vendor who is providing your bar and see if they can help you choose some seasonal cocktail options to offer your guests.

For your meal, consider fare such as game, fowl, or roast rack of lamb. Serve with harvest-type vegetables like squash and root vegetables. You may also want to serve a hearty soup such as pumpkin or butternut squash. Choosing seasonal foods will usually cut down on the catering costs.

Setting the Mood
For an intimate atmosphere, use lots of candles at each table but keep the overhead room lighting low. This will really warm up the room and enhance the mood of your celebration. For a brighter and lighter atmosphere, try using white Christmas lights or paper lanterns to illuminate the room in a wash of light, which will give everything a magical feel. These affordable lighting solutions will really help set the tone for your reception.

Winter Wedding Color Palettes
Winter is the time of the year when nature goes dormant, so this should be reflected in your color palette. Stick with various shades of white along with cool and neutral colors for your wedding color palette. Creative accents can add a splash of color against the neutral background.
